Region: Trentino, Italy
Mezzacorona winery is the leader in production of Pinot Grigio in the Trentino DOC Region in Italy. The grapes are cultivated on the hills along the Adige Valley, near the City of Trento, close to the Lake Garda. The grapes are handpicked and after the crushing and destemming, the grapes are soft pressed and the must settle down for 24 hours. Then the fermentation starts only in stainless steel tanks with the addition of selected yeasts and runs at 16°C for 10-12 days. After the alcoholic fermentation, the wine rests in tanks for 3-4 months with periodical stirring of the yeasts (batonnage). Then 50% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to reduce the acidity for a smoother and more balanced wine.
It has a green color with a hint of yellow and aromas of ripe peaches and pears and some floral notes. The flavors also include the ripe peach and red pears with a mineral finish. 13% ABV. It has been a while sine I have had a Pinot Grigio, which is what I started out drinking most of the time years ago. This was a pleasant wine that is very drinkable alone or would be great with white meats or fish.
