Region: Robertson, South Africa

I have not had many Pinotage wines before, but was very pleased with this one.  Named after Dr. William Robertson, a Scottish minister, the town is located in South Africa, and the winery is included in an extended family of 35 farms contributing to the production of wines. This Pinotage spent 6 months in oak, and it comes through in the aromas and favors.  Violet in color, this medium-bodied wine has a medium finish as well.  Immediately I found aromas and flavors of blackberry, plumb, smoke, and tobacco. 13.5% ABV. This is a great wine at a bargain price, and highly recommended if you want a nice change from your usual go to varieties.
