Whisk | Coffee & Wine Bar, Mahomet IL
Recently my wife and I had the pleasure to join a group of our dear friends for a private wine tasting at Whisk Coffee & Wine Bar. Whisk is located on the east side of Mahomet, IL just a short distance from I-74. A perfect opportunity for a quick detour or for locals to hang out.
Jennifer Wagner is the owner and our host for this event. She is quite proud of her shop, which is more than just coffee and wine. There is also a small clothing boutique to shop. Jennifer along with Tony Johnston provided an amazing lineup of Argentinian wines, including background on the vintages, wineries and their locations, along with their own tasting notes and reviews. It is always exciting to take part in wine tastings where the presenters are as equally excited about what they do and the presentations being made.
The following is a list of the wines included in our tasting, along with the producer(s)’s tasting notes.
2021 Cliff Lede Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley, California) – 100% Sauvignon Blanc “Youthful and delightfully fresh, the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc offers an exhilarating bouquet of lemon curd, honeysuckle nectar, and white peach aromas. Layers of shortbread, beeswax, flint, and kaffir lime scents appear with time and heighten the complexity.”
2020 La Posta Angel Paulucci Malbec (Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina) – 100% Malbec “Aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and violets along with notes of toasty oak. On the palate, fresh berries with spice and a hint of soft caramel on the finish.” This was one of my purchases for the event.
2020 La Posta Pizzella Family Malbec (Uko Valley, Mendoza, Argentina) – 100% Malbec “A beautiful red and purple color with aromas of black cherries, dark fruits, dark chocolate and baker’s spice. On the palate, the wine shows dense, dark berry and plum flavors along with hints of sandalwood and spice, and even a hint of violets in the finish. This is a full-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life and born to be enjoyed with food and friends.”
2019 Piattelli Trinita Grand Reserve (Luján de Cuyo, Agrelo, & Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina) – 76% Malbec, 11% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon “Aromas and flavors of chocolate and raspberry crème. Dark plum flavors create a balanced & soft mouth feel. Full & long finish.” This was one of my purchases for the event.
2020 Piattelli Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Cafayate Valley, Salta, Argentina) – 100% Cabernet Sauvignon “Deep purple in color with bright aromas of red fruits and spices. A full-bodied and mouth-filling red with smooth tannins, leading to a long and elegant finish.”
We wish to thank Jennifer for her hospitality in arranging this special tasting for our group and we hope to share an event like this again soon.

I enjoy visiting all area wineries. Very enjoyable to talk with the owners and customers. We went to the new one in Altamont!
I hope to get a chance to visit the new one in Altamont soon.
